Our Mission |
Icarus Rocketry believes that educating the public as well as inspiring future generations of scientists and engineers is critical. We actively engage the community through informal outreach events such as Earth and Space Exploration Day, Night of the Open Door, and SESE Open House held every month. The team also actively participates in formal educational outreach at area schools to teach students the principles of aerodynamics, physics, and more, as well as conducting demonstration flights.
For formal educational outreach the club offers two inquiry based labs differentiated for both middle and high school. Middle school students will have the opportunity to identify the variables of a class set of rockets and determine the effects of changing one of those variables. High school students will learn the practical applications of rocket science, how their current physics lessons are implemented in fields like high power rocketry, and the incredible effort it takes to launch something into orbit. |
